Every year we try to visit Chennai at least for a few weeks to see my husband’s family and friends. And every year, without fail, there is always at least one day of temple hopping. My in-laws are very religious, and they love taking us around to as many temples as possible.
As someone who is not very religious, this day is one of the days I dread on our India trips, but there’s one major silver lining to visiting all these temples: Since most of the temples my in-laws like to visit are located just on the outskirts of Chennai rather than in the city, we end up seeing lots of nature and animals – particularly Rhesus Macaques. These monkeys love hanging out around the temples and usually have a banana in hand.
